Southwest Job Network (SJN) offers twice-monthly meetings in North Phoenix, the West and the Southeast Valley of Greater Phoenix, Arizona. These meetings focus on delivering SJN’s core curriculum and offer opportunities to network with other job seekers, alumni members and business supporters.

SJN career and training professionals have developed a curriculum for the job search process and offer it regularly at our meetings and workshops.  Modules include:

  • Managing The Emotions of Career Transition and Developing Your Vision
  • Your Marketing Plan: Resumes, LinkedIn ,and Other Tools
  • Creating Leads & Networking
  • Interviewing and Managing Offers

Supplemental topics include specialty workshops such as an All-Day Boot Camp for those who’ve been in transition more than three months, social media workshops such as SJN’s Get Wired to Get Hired, and a popular program on Interview Skills where recruiters and company representatives conduct mock interviews and offer feedback.

Additionally, SJN hosts discussion panels with guest speakers who lend their perspective.  Panels frequently include CEOs, entrepreneurs, professional career coaches, and other business leaders.

SJN’s events and special events regularly attract between 100 and 150 participants, many of whom drive 30 to 45 minutes or more just to attend an SJN event.  This was the reason behind our effort to bring our program to the Southeast Valley and West Valley in the Summer of 2009.  SJN’s recent expansion to the West and Southeast Valley is the result of a collaboration with the Maricopa County Community Colleges and the support of our passionate members and volunteers.

When SJN offers workshops – four-hour sessions expanding on the curriculum that trains unemployed people on how to job search – we requests a nominal fee.  However, we waive the fee if it presents a hardship. Our purpose is to help the unemployed effectively job search and get back to work. As a result, we have garnered a support base in the business and civic community and attract job seekers from around the Valley.

Yahoo Group is our member-only intranet resource allowing members to stay connected. Through it, we post job leads, share relevant articles and more. SJN LinkedIn Group is a meeting place for members, alumni, and supporters. The LinkedIn Group membership is limited to AZ based job seekers, employers, recruiters and those who are relocating to Arizona. Also accepted are out of state recruiters who place Arizona based candidates.
