From humble beginnings in the old Korrick’s Department Store in downtown Phoenix, Maricopa Technical College has flourished for 40 years, evolving into GateWay Community College. Since 1968, GateWay has built a reputation on innovation, pioneering vision, and responsiveness to community needs.

Gateway has a history of “firsts”:

  • The first technical college in Arizona
  • The first college to use community advisory committees
  • The first college to tailor courses to meet the needs of business and industry
  • The first college to offer classes at off-campus locations
  • The first college to install a computer

Today, GateWay boasts more than 100 degree and certificate programs to fit students’ lives, budgets, and goals. Gateway is Arizona’s leader in nursing and healthcare training and offers high-demand programs in automotive and manufacturing technology, green technologies, business, computer science, and more.

Conveniently located on the Metro Light Rail line near Sky Harbor International Airport, GateWay is also close to Arizona State University’s Tempe and Downtown Phoenix campuses. In addition to assisting students, the Career Center also works with the community through its Center for Workforce Transition and Caregiver program.
